Food Pairings: What Foods Pair Well With Peanut Butter?
Peanut butter is known for its delicious taste and creamy texture, but did you know that it can also help reduce the risk of heart disease by up to 38%?
Peanut butter is also perfect for food pairings when it's time to eat a healthy snack or add some flavor to your favorite dishes.
At American Dream Butter, we handcraft our gourmet peanut butter in small batches using natural dry-roasted peanuts.
We offer old-fashioned peanut butter but also specialize in fun flavors like Thicka Than A Snicka or Grandma's Peanut Butter Fudge.
Read on for some food suggestions to pair with peanut butter the next time you're craving a healthy, delicious snack.
Fruit
Fruit and peanut butter go together almost as well as peanut butter and jelly - but this pairing is healthier!
What's even better is that peanut butter will go well with just about any fruit you pick, so you can't go wrong. Most fruit will also pair well with our fun, creative peanut butter flavors.
Each of our flavors is free of fillers and preservatives, low carb, gluten-free, and high in protein so no matter what flavor you choose, you're always eating the best of the best.
A classic pairing like apple or banana slices and peanut butter are a safe bet and will leave your sweet tooth satisfied without any guilt.
You can also think outside the box and try other fruits like strawberries, blueberries, pears, peaches, or raspberries.
Celery
Ants on a log are a nostalgic and healthy snack that takes us back to our childhood. But this vegetable paired with peanut butter makes the most delicious snacks no matter what age you are.
Celery and peanut butter are perfect for a midday break or to pack into your kid's school lunches as a fun surprise during their day. Add some raisins on top as the "ants" and you've got a treat that's as cute as it is tasty.
You don't have to stick to raisins though! Try other pairings like chocolate chips, cranberries, craisins, coconut shavings, freeze-dried fruit or granola.
Pretzel Sticks
Pair pretzels and peanut butter for a quick snack when you're on the go but don't want to munch on something stacked with sugar and fats.
Pretzel sticks on their own are an easy snack that is low in fat, but pairing them with peanut butter takes them to a whole other level of tastiness.
The best part is that this pairing takes no prep time at all and requires no utensils or work. All you'll likely need is a napkin, just in case you end up with some peanut butter on you.
Simply pack your pretzel sticks in a plastic bag and spoon some peanut butter into a reusable container and you're good to go!
Chocolate
Peanut butter goes well with plenty of healthy snacks, but every once in a while, it's nice to treat yourself to something sweet. Chocolate is the yin to peanut butter's yang, so you can't go wrong with this delectable choice.
If you want to keep this treat a healthy option, you'll want to skip right over any milk chocolate and reach for some dark chocolate instead.
Dark chocolate, when eaten in moderation and not loaded with sugar, is a great source of antioxidants and helps lower the risk of heart disease. It can also help improve your brain function and lower your blood pressure.
Whether you want to include these ingredients in a cookie recipe for a "cheat day" or blend them into a smoothie, you won't ever be disappointed by this combination of flavors.
Salads
You may not think of peanut butter and salads as a natural pairing, but with the right ingredients, the two make for a surprisingly scrumptious and healthy recipe.
Peanut butter, ginger, and lime are the base ingredients for a tangy salad dressing that you'll want to enjoy over and over again. Peanut butter can be the key ingredient in many different and interesting salad dressings.
Pour this dressing over a bed of shredded cabbage, grated carrots, sliced cucumber, onion, and shelled edamame to enjoy your own version of a crunchy Thai salad.
Breakfast Food
When it comes to breakfast food and peanut butter the possibilities are endless! Healthy peanut butter, like our Just Plain Nutty flavor, can elevate your whole breakfast experience.
This nutty spread is packed with protein, vitamin E, magnesium, and other nutrients that contribute to a healthy and balanced diet. Plus, it just tastes great!
Place a hefty spoonful of peanut butter on top of a bowl of steel-cut oatmeal for an added dose of protein. Sweeten the meal even more by sprinkling blueberries and sliced strawberries into the bowl as well.
Peanut butter also makes the perfect topping for a stack of pancakes or French toast. There are plenty of recipes out there for healthy, protein-packed pancakes when you're trying to stay health-conscious.
A spoonful of peanut butter also makes a wonderful addition to a breakfast smoothie for days when you're on the go.
Sweet Potato
If you have never heard of this combination before, now's the time to consider trying it!
The natural sweetness in a sweet potato makes it the perfect base for creamy peanut butter, especially if you're looking for an alternative to bread to make peanut butter toast with.
Sliced sweet potato provides a simple flavor that will work well with most of the ingredients you'd normally put on peanut butter toast. Even peanut butter and jelly taste good on a sweet potato!
Sweet potatoes are also a great source of nutrients, like vitamins A and C. They also help reduce inflammation, improve digestion, and support eye health, among other things.
Noodle Dishes
If you have ever enjoyed peanut sauce, then you know what a wonderful contribution peanut butter can be to a noodle dish.
Pad thai is a beloved noodle dish that is often a popular choice at Thai restaurants, and for good reason. This sweet and savory dish can only benefit from the addition of peanut butter.
Make sure to ground some peanuts as well. Traditional pad thai dishes usually come with crushed peanuts sprinkled on top.
Peanut sauce would also work wonders on spaghetti squash noodles. These noodles are hearty, nutritious, and appetizing without the added carbs that traditional noodles have.
Toast
We've all heard of avocado toast, but peanut butter toast is its equally delicious but sweeter counterpart.
Spread some peanut butter on your toast of choice and add some fun toppings to make it a real meal. Luckily, there are so many options that would make a delicious and filling topping.
Fruits and nuts are a classic combination and would taste just right on peanut butter toast. Some ideal ingredients are berries, slivered almonds, chopped walnuts, and banana slices.
You can also sprinkle on chia seeds and ground flaxseeds for added crunch and nutrition. Don't forget to drizzle some honey or sprinkle some cinnamon on top!
Yogurt
Nothing makes for a sweet but satisfying snack like a bowl of yogurt with your favorite peanut butter flavor.
You can even get a little creative and stack your yogurt and peanut butter with other ingredients to make a parfait.
Start by layering some yogurt on the bottom of a wide cup or bowl. Top that with a layer of the fruit of your choice followed by a layer of granola. Keep going until you've filled it to your desired amount.
Once you're done, top the whole thing with a dollop of your favorite peanut butter. You can also sprinkle chia seeds or drizzle honey on top for some added sweetness and crunch.
Spring Rolls
Spring rolls are a light and fresh alternative to fried egg rolls without skimping on any of the flavors. They make a great appetizer or can even be a meal on their own.
Peanut sauce is the perfect ingredient to elevate the taste of spring rolls. Whether you spread a layer inside your spring roll or dip the roll into the sauce, it compliments the ingredients in a spring roll perfectly.
Peanut sauce made with real peanut butter pairs well with the shrimp, tofu, mint, basil, carrots, cabbage, and rice noodles often found in these refreshing rolls.
